How do I play a cracked Diablo II online?

I recently downloaded an ISO for D2 so i can refresh my memories for the upcoming D3, i have a lvl 19 pally and I decided that I want to play it online with a friend of mine..If I install the multiplayer version of the game, will I lose my pally? and also idk how to go online exactly x.x
